GROUND UNCONTROLLED: Disaster to the Power of Ten is an encyclopedia of an event. Our existence is hazardous. Our co-habitation is danger. As technology invades and marries our space, a delicate dance between risk and safety is performed. This book takes a look at disasterous events and concludes that society’s reliance on the success of systems is only illustrated by the response it has when they have failed. The design structure of the book parallels the contents’ reflection on the breakdown of systems; the more the book reveals about the historical disaster, the more the physical design of the book begins to breakdown, as it is illustrated that the visual development of the book relies on the stability of computer software to come into being.
